Reviews for Portable Refrigerator Freezer - sixty three Qt. - EdgeStar I've owned this FP630 unit for 3 months and have only one problem with it. I like the refrigerator/freezer itself very much, and it has labored neatly on AC current. However, the 12v connection cable is flawed.
I ordered the longer 12v cable and it was faulty also. In order to use DC current as your power supply you need to cut off the male plug (that plugs into your 12v energy source) and substitute it with a 10A, 12v DC plug one can find at Radio Shack for $5.99.
It's a PITA but you have not any choice per my name to the EdgeStar Factory representative. The drawback with the 12v cables is that the male plug on the cable is faulty in that its retention springs, that cling the plug into the wall or car socket, are too vulnerable the it'll very easily transfer out of the socket enough to interrupt the connection with the wall power supply. And, in a motorhome or vehicle, you might have constant vibration which adds to the drawback of your connection being unreliable.
If you just like the unit simply buy a brand new male plug, as the EdgeStar factory representative will recommend you to do, and exchange the male plug that comes on the ability cable from EdgeStar. Bought this as a fridge for my off-roading go again and forths. Stacked about 28 bottles on the bottom of the unit and put a bunch of food on-top. If I had to wager, I would bet I may get about fifty five beer bottles on this fridge. The bottles dont standup well on the basket insert, I suppose I may make a divider out of plastic to standup and offer protection to bottles.
The cold: empty, this unit cooled down from 70f to -8f in about 30 min, plugged into AC. I used this unit to keep beer and meals @ 36f for a weekend off-roading go again and forth powered by using 12v on my nissan xterra. I did no longer see a drained battery, but it was once beautiful chilly, so I have no idea how ceaselessly the compressor was running, temps on the travel from four0-70f. I nonetheless plan on striking a meter on this to check actual amp hour draws; I will update this evaluation later.
